Mission

BrewDog is a crowdfunded craft brewery based in Scotland that is dedicated to producing great craft beers for the UK market and beyond. Their mission is to make “craft beer for the people” and “make other people as passionate about great craft beer [as they are].”

BrewDog Brewery, Beer, and Bars

Based in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, BrewDog has grown to be the largest craft brewery in the United Kingdom. BrewDog operates more than 30 bars in the UK, 16 bars internationally (including in Japan, Brazil, and numerous countries throughout Europe), and is building its first US brewery, a 100,000-square-foot space on 42 acres of land located near Columbus, Ohio.

BrewDog brews a selection of different craft beers, including several seasonal flavors, all of which are made without preservatives, chemicals, or added ingredients beyond barley, hops, yeast, and water. The brewery’s original flagship beer is Punk IPA. Its other most popular brews include Dead Pony Club, Jet Black Heart, 5AM Saint, and Kingpin.

History

BrewDog was founded in 2007 by James Watt and Martin Dickie, who were both 24 years old at the time. Frustrated with the lack of craft beers available in the UK, they utilized a creative approach to raising money, relying on crowdfunding initiatives. As the world’s first crowdfunded brewery, BrewDog has over 46,000 investors participating in its “Equity for Punks” campaign. Shareholders get perks that include discounts on BrewDog bars and its online shop, as well as free brewery tours, and perks increase with the number of shares purchased.

In August, 2016, BrewDog launched its “Equity for Punks in the USA” initiative to crowdfund its new Ohio brewery. Its goal was to raise “up to” $50 million by selling 1,052,632 BrewDog shares, at $47.50 a share, with a minimum purchase of 2 shares. Within 3 days of the start of the crowdfunding campaign, the company raised $1 million.
