Careers at DNAnexus

Mission

DNAnexus’ vision is to unlock the potential for DNA-based medicine and biotechnology.

History

DNAnexus is a California-based Company founded in 2009 by Andreas Sundquist (CEO), Serafim Batzoglou and Arend Sidow, who are Stanford Professors. DNAnexus provides a global DNA sequence data-management platform through cloud-based data analyses. The Company was founded with a vision of accelerating the development of genomic medicine by simplifying the use of genomic data and tools.

The DNAnexus platform addresses challenges of scalability, security, and collaboration of various organizations in pursuit of a genomic-based approach to health in medical research. Through the DNAnexus platform, these organizations are able to stay ahead in their genomic research for expedient development of medicinal options.

In August 2009, DNAnexus received $1.55 million in its Series A funding led by SoftTech VC, Felicis Ventures, K9 Ventures, SV Angel, and First Round. In October 2011, the Company received $15 million in its Series B funding from TPG Biotech led by SoftTech VC, K9 Ventures, TPG Biotech, First Round, GV, and Felicis Ventures. In January 2014, DNAnexus received a further $15 million in its Series C funding, which was led by Claremont Creek Ventures First Round GV TPG Biotech and in its Series D funding in April 2015, landed an additional $15 million from WuXi AppTec.

In 2013, DNAnexus joined forces with the Baylor College Human Genome Sequencing Center (HGSC) and Amazon Web Services (AWS) in an effort to analyze over 14,000 human genomes on the DNAnexus platform. Over 400TB of data was required to support 300 global researchers around the world studying aging and heart disease.

DNAnexus has made DNA sequencing technology available on-demand to any research lab in the world. This accessibility has increased the potential of DNA sequencing in diagnosing and addressing numerous diseases. These benefits have made DNAnexus a very successful and equally beneficial project with an estimated annual revenue of $4 million and an employee base of 56 personnel and growing.
