Careers at Flatiron School

Mission

The Flatiron School is a coding camp that instils the passion of programming and coding into their students, to broaden their horizons and prepare them for the workforce of the future. The company intends to connect education with reality.

History

Adam Enbar and Avi Flombaum created the Flatiron School in June 2012. Both of these co-founders come from vastly different backgrounds. Adam was working as a venture capitalist at Charles Rivers Ventures, helping entrepreneurs change things, and he was disheartened by the landscape of educational technology, known by the portmanteau EdTech.

Avi was very passionate about technology and taught himself the basics before becoming an educator himself. Avi was actually organizing and instructing coding workshops to teach people how to code and find jobs in the world of programming.

When the two finally met, they knew they could work together to do something great. They devised a new model for higher education that was accessible and delivered results in giving people fulfilling careers. They established a school that could have a major effect on people’s lives and careers through coding.

The school is headquartered in New York City and has 65 staff members. In April 2014, Flatiron School received $5.5 million in Series A funding, led by CRV and Matrix Partners. In April the following year, the company received $9 million in Series B funding, led by Thrive Capital. Avi now serves as the Dean of the school and Adam is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
