Founding story

InfusionSoft was founded in 2001 by brothers Scott and Eric Martineau and their partner Clate Mask (“Mask”), who sought to develop software solutions that would assist small businesses in optimising and expanding their operations. The Company was initially incorporated under the name Infusion Software Inc.

InfusionSoft began to attract investor funding in 2007, when it raised $9 million from Mohr Davidow Ventures in its Series A round. The Company has since completed its Series B, C and D rounds, as well as a round of venture funding, raising a total of $127.9 million. This includes investments from high-profile investors such as Goldman Sachs, Bain Capital Ventures, Signal Peak Ventures, and Allure Ventures.

Since its establishment, InfusionSoft has established itself as a leading provider of sales and marketing solutions for small businesses, offering a rage of service offerings to companies across multiple business sectors. The Company has also expanded its operations to include offices in the UK and Australia.

InfusionSoft remains a privately owned company. The Company, however, appears to have plans for an initial public offering in the near future. InfusionSoft’s most recent round of investor funding, completed in 2014, saw the Company valued at approximately $500 million.

Channels

InfusionSoft operates a website at www.infusionsoft.com, through which it provides information on its products, solutions, customers, and partners. The Company’s does not operate a traditional online sales channel, but allows customers to begin free trial demonstrations of its products directly through its website. The Company also operates an online customer portal, through which clients can access a range of tools and resources.

InfusionSoft operates an in-house direct sales team that is organised by geographic region. The Company’s sales personnel operate out of the Company’s regional sales and administration offices that are located in the US, Australia, and the UK. The Company’s sales representatives can be contacted over the phone, by email, or via an online chat service.

InfusionSoft additionally makes sales through a network of channel and distribution partners that promote and sell products on the Company’s behalf. This includes value added resellers, distributors, and authorised sales agents.

Customer Relationships

InfusionSoft does not sell its products and services to clients on a self-service basis. The Company does, however operate a self-service customer portal, which allows clients to access resources and tools online without interacting with members of the Company’s sales and service personnel. Customers can also arrange free software demonstrations independently through the Company’s website.

InfusionSoft makes sales principally through its direct sales force. This allows the Company to consult with clients before sales are made in order to ascertain the individual requirements and circumstances of each client. InfusionSoft’s key resources are its proprietary technologies and intellectual properties, its software solutions and products, its IT and communications infrastructure, its sales and distribution channels, its partnerships, and its personnel.

InfusionSoft utilises various proprietary technologies in the development of its solutions, which it protects using patent law, trademarks, and other agreements. However, searches of records published by the US Patent and Trademark Office identified no patent applications filed in the name of InfusionSoft, either as assignee or applicant.

InfusionSoft also owns and or leases a number of physical properties that comprise its network of sales and administrative offices.

Cost Structure

InfusionSoft incurs costs in relation to the development of its technologies and solutions, the development and maintenance of its IT and communications infrastructure, the operation of its sales and distribution channels, the management of its partnership, the procurement of services, the implementation of marketing and advertising campaigns, and the retention of its personnel.

Revenue Streams

InfusionSoft generates revenue through the development and delivery of sales and marketing software solutions to small businesses. The Company derives much of its revenue under a subscription model, with users paying monthly fees under fixed annual contracts. Subscription fees range from $199 per month to $599 per month.

InfusionSoft remains a privately owned company, and as such is not obliged to publish its financial results on its website. Research did not identify any coverage of the Company recent revenue figures, Reports from 2015, however, suggested that the Company generated annual revenue in the amount of $80 million in 2014.

Clate Mask,
Co-Founder, President and Chief Executive Officer

info: Mask has served as President and Chief Executive Officer at InfusionSoft since co-founding the Company in 2001. He takes responsibility for leading the Company’s overall strategic direction. Mask has held several senior leadership positions within the technology sector, with a focus on revenue management. He began his career at North Sky in 1999. The company was later sold to About.com, where he rose to the role of Director of Revenue Management. In 2001 Mask joined United Online, where he served as Director of Revenue Management for two years before leaving the company to co-found InfusionSoft.

Curtis Smith,
Chief Financial Officer

info: Curtis has served as Chief Financial Officer at InfusionSoft since joining the Company in 2014. He is responsible for overseeing the operations of the Company’s various financial units, including its accounting, internal audit, and tax teams. Smith is an experienced executive, having held senior positions in both the financial and technology sectors. This includes a spell as Vice President at Credit Suisse First Boston from 1999 to 2002, followed by a spell as Managing Director at GCA Savvian Advisors from 2006 to 2010. Smith moved into the technology sector in 2010 when he joined Keynote Systems as Chief Financial Officer, his last executive role before joining InfusionSoft.

Terry Hicks,
Chief Operating Officer

info: Terry has served as Chief Operating Officer at InfusionSoft since 2017, overseeing much of the Company’s day-to-day operations. Prior to assuming this role, he served as the Company’s Chief Product Officer from 2015. Hicks has worked in the technology sector since the 1990s. He began his career in 1994 as a product line manager at Proxima (later InFocus), following which he served as Director of Product Management. In 1997 he was appointed Director of Product and Business Development at Praja, a role he held for just two years before moving to Intuit. Hicks held a number of roles at Intuit over the course of 15 years, including spells as Director of Small Business Services, Vice President and General Manager of QuickBooks Group, and Vice President and General Manager of QuickBooks Online.
