Neusoft seeks to assist companies and organisations across multiple sectors in optimising their IT systems through the provision of various software solutions and ancillary technology services.

Founding story

Neusoft was established in 1988 by Northeastern University professors Jiren Liu (“Liu”) and Huatian Liu. The Company began as a small operation, with just three people and three computers. It changed its name to the Northeastern University Computer Software Research and Development Centre in 1990, before formally incorporating in 1991.

Neusoft developed its operations in the early 1990s, diversifying its operations by founding NEU Software Group Limited. In 1996 the Company became the first publicly-listed Chinese software company when it completed an initial public offering on the Shanghai Stock Exchange. In 2003 Neusoft consolidated its investments, as a consequence of which companies such as Alpine Electronics, Toshiba, Bao Steel, and other investors became shareholders of Neusoft Group.

Neusoft has continued to expand its operations, opening a number of international offices across North America, Europe, Asia Pacific, and the Middle East. The Company is among China’s largest software companies serving an extensive global client base, and in 2016 was ranked third in PricewaterhouseCoopers’s list of Top Emerging Markets Software Companies. Neusoft continues to trade shares on the Shanghai Stock Exchange and has a current market capitalisation of CNY 24.3 billion.

Neusoft offers a wide range of software solutions to commercial and institutional customers across multiple business sectors. The Company states that it provides solutions to customers across the following industries:

  • Telecommunications, including telecommunications providers, communications carriers, data service providers, and internet service providers;
  • Financial Services, including banking institutions, financial service providers, commodity and stock exchanges, credit finance institutions, and asset managers;
  • Energy, including power generation companies, and power transmission providers;

Neusoft names a number of its customers on its website. This includes People’s Bank of China, the Shanghai Stock Exchange, Agricultural Bank of China, and Dongfeng Peugeot Citroen Automobile Finance Company.

Neusoft’s key market is its native China, where it serves an extensive customer base. The Company also serves customers across the US, Europe, the Middle East, and the rest of the Asia Pacific region.

The Company does not operate an online sales portal, nor does it operate an online client portal that allows customers to access tools and resources. In addition to its software products, Neusoft offers several mobile applications.

Neusoft makes sales through a direct sales force that is organised across several geographic regions. The Company’s sales personnel operate out of a network of sales and administrative offices located across Asia Pacific, Europe, North America, and the Middle East, including in the US, the UAE, Japan, and Germany.  These sales personnel can be contacted over the phone or via email.

Neusoft additionally makes sales through a network of channel and distribution partners. This includes various value added resellers, distributors, and independent software vendors.

Customer Relationships

Neusoft does not offer products and solutions to customers on a self-service basis. Instead, the Company makes sales directly to clients through its own in-house direct sales force, as well as through various channel and distribution partners.

The Company’s sales personnel consult directly with clients in order to ascertain their individual needs and circumstances, with the Company offering tailored services where possible. Neusoft utilises a range of proprietary technologies in the development and delivery of its software solutions. Searches of records published by the US Patent and Trademark Office identified no patent applications filed in Neusoft’s name. A search of records published by a third party online patents database, however, identified several applications filed in Neusoft’s name, including applications entitled ‘Method and Apparatus for Data Linkage between Heterogeneous Platforms’ and ‘Method and Apparatus for Identifying Obstacle in Image’.

Neusoft also owns and or leases a portfolio of physical properties that comprise its international office network.

Cost Structure

Neusoft incurs costs in relation to the development its proprietary technologies and intellectual properties, the development of its products and solutions, the maintenance of its IT and communications infrastructure, the operation of its sales and distribution channels, the management of its partnerships, the procurement of services, the implementation of marketing and advertising campaigns, and the retention of its personnel.

Revenue Streams

Neusoft generates revenue through the development and sale of various software products, as well as through the provision of a range of related services.

The Company derives this revenue under sales and service contracts that are agreed on a case-by-case basis, as well as through the licensing of its software products. In 2015 Neusoft generated revenue in the amount of approximately CNY 7.80 billion (around $1.13 billion), comparable to its revenue generated in 2014.

Our team

Jiren Liu,
Founder, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer

info: Liu has served as Chief Executive Officer at Neusoft since 1999. He is responsible for leading the overall strategic direction of the Company and is its principal decision maker. Liu holds a number of chairmanships and directorships, including with Harman International Industries. According to a corporate biography, Liu continues to serve as a professor at Northeastern University and is a Vice President of the institution. Liu began his career in 1987, when he started work at the Northeast Institute of Technology, working as a lecturer in its Computer Department. He went on be named a director of Neusoft’s predecessor, Northeastern University Computer Software Research and Development Centre in 1990, from which Neusoft has evolved.

Xia’ou Zhang,
Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer

info: Xia’ou has served as Chief Financial Officer at Neusoft since 2012. He is responsible for overseeing the Company’s various financial functions, including the operations of its accounting, internal audit, and investor relations units. Zhang is a certified public accountant. He has held financial roles of increasing responsibility at Neusoft since joining the Company in 2000 as Financial Director. He served as Senior Vice President and Financial Operating Officer for four years before taking on his current role. According to a corporate biography, he formerly held a range of senior fiancé positions at a company based in Chongqing.

Xi Chen,
Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer

info: Xi has served as Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Neusoft since 2012, taking responsibility for much of the day-to-day running of the Company. He is also General Manager of the Company embedded software business. Chen is a long-serving Neusoft employee, having first joined the Company in 1999. He has held a number of financial management roles in his 18 years with the Company, serving successively as as Manager of the Intelligent Device Development Department, Deputy General Manager of Neusoft Middleware Technologies, Manager of Embedded Software Division, and Vice President of Neusoft.
