Careers at Propeller Health
Mission
Propeller Health’s mission is to improve the lives of individuals suffering from asthma, COPD, or respiratory disease by offering sensor-driven analytic solutions that provide insights to patients and their healthcare providers.
Service and Products
Propeller Health offers a digital health platform that has been FDA-approved for managing chronic asthma and COPD by increasing adherence and tracking symptoms. The software platform is designed to work with any of the company’s three sensor-based solutions. Customers order a physical sensor, which they attach directly to their inhalers.
The sensors automatically keep track of inhaler and medication use, as well as record and analyze trends, which patients and doctors can use to track drug compliance and episode triggers. Health providers can also use this data to monitor their patients remotely.
Propeller Health offers three types of sensor products:
- Propeller Bluetooth Smart: Propeller’s flagship product, which works with the majority of metered-dose inhalers (rescue inhalers).
- Diskus: works with the Advair, Serevent, and Flovent Diskus inhaler models manufactured by G
- Respimat: (for use with Boehringer Ingelheim’s Respimat): works with the Spiriva, Combivent, and Striverdi models of the Respimat inhalers made by Boehringer Ingelheim.
Propeller Health’s sensors continuously collect information that is used with its digital health platform. This information can be used at the patient level – to help individuals manage their conditions, through personalized information and guidelines – but can also be used at the aggregate level by public health agencies.
History
Propeller Health was founded in 2010 by Greg Tracy and David Van Sickle. Based in Madison, Wisconsin, it has partnered with groups in both the private and public sectors. Its COPD and asthma management platform has been used in over 35 commercial programs.
In July 2015, it received FDA Clearance to market use of its platform with the Diskus Inhaler made by GlaxoSmithKline. This follows a similar clearance in Mach 2015 to market its product for use with the Respimat Inhaler, which is manufactured by German pharmaceutical company Boehringer Ingelheim. In all, it has received four separate FDA clearances; the first was obtained in July 2012.
