History
Treatwell is a successful online beauty booking platform with global ambitions. The idea was dreamed up by CEO Lopo Champalimaud after he had tried, and failed, to book a massage online. Champalimaud, formerly of Lastminute.com, realised that the beauty and hair market was extremely fragmented. Customers had no way of sharing their experiences or information about prices and availability of services. Consumers wanted to book their hair, beauty and wellness appointments online but spas and salons had widely failed to join the digital revolution (only 2% offered any form of online booking service).
He founded Wahanda, Treatwell’s predecessor, in London on Valentine’s Day 2008. The business grew quickly after 2010 when the company introduced ‘Daily Deals,’ an idea inspired by US firm Groupon. Customers flocked to the site to take advantage of cut-price, high quality hair and beauty treatments.
In 2012, the business refocused on its treatment booking platform. It has grown rapidly and adds around 1,500 spa and salons to the platform every month. It has expanded across Europe; the company acquired Germany’s Salonmeister in October 2014; brought Lemon Labs, the leading Lithuanian mobile app development agency in January 2010; acquired Austria’s Beautycheck in April and in June 2015 completed the acquisition of the French beauty booking brand, Zensoon. These companies were united under a single brand, Treatwell (a Dutch brand also recently acquired by Wahanda). Treatwell now operates across ten European countries and plans to expand further in the coming months.
