Careers at Vium
Mission
The mission of VIUM is “to create technology to accelerate breakthroughs in human health.”
History
Vium was established in Silicon Valley in 2013. The founders’ objective was to create the first company to offer a living informatics platform for preclinical in vivo drug research.
In June 2016, Vium officially launched its 21st century Digital Vivarium™. This facility houses live rodents in cages that are equipped with sensors and a high-definition camera network. VIUM’s Smart Housing facility is designed to provide a humane, natural environment for animals being used for testing experimental drugs.
Feeding and administration of test drugs are automated, so the animals are subject to a minimum of human handling. At the same time, the use of automated sensors and video means that animal behaviors and reactions to drugs can be measured more accurately, and reliable data can be delivered in a much shorter period of time than when using procedures that depend on error-prone human-animal interactions.
Vium provides an online Research Suite where scientists can design and conduct studies, monitor animal behavior and well-being, and record and analyze data as it comes in. All data and information collected and all computed analyses are stored in the Vium Cloud. Vium is also using automated, digitized health metrics from test animals to create disease models that address high unmet needs for therapeutic areas such as arthritis, multiple sclerosis, lupus, lymphoma, liver fibrosis, leukemia, phenotyping, and aging.
The company claims that, with the introduction of its living informatics platform, it is setting a new standard for animal care while giving researchers breakthrough tools for advancing human health. Vium is fully accredited by the International Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC International) and has been commended for meeting the requirements of AAALAC’s gold-standard framework for humane animal research.
