Careers at WePay
Mission
WePay is an online payment service that provides solutions to increase revenue.
Product Segments
WePay offers an Application Program Interface (API) for payments processing. Businesses are able to accept all major credit cards, direct bank transfers, Apple and Android Pay, recurring payments, tipping point payments, and provide multi-party payouts. Companies can also fully integrate their own mobile card reader program into their platform.
Card readers that support chip and traditional magstripe card payments are available and can be mailed directly from WePay to vendors. Compared to other payments processors they can also provide transaction level reporting about how money flows through a platform.
Marketing automation software provided by WePay can combine certain actions with transaction level data. Merchants can sign their customers up for an email newsletter as soon as they swipe their credit card. The payment system is customizable to control what interaction the customer has when they visit the site.
The payment platform helps ensure compliance with payments regulations. Using WePay eliminates the need for money transmitter licenses. They handle the printing and mailing required tax documents to merchants. Services also include monitoring all transactions to ensure compliance with the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) or other regulations.
History
WePay was created to address the need for an easy and secure payment system to collect funds from a large group of people. After creating several applications, co-founders Bill Clerico and Rich Aberman focused on solely developing a payment system. Clerico left his technology investment banking job and Aberman forfeited his admission to New York University Law School to launch WePay in 2008.
WePay now provides a payment platform for businesses. The company handles risk management, regulatory compliance, licensing, account security, and tax documents for its users. The solutions they offer include the integration of a mobile chip card reader, mobile software development kits and the ability to embed payments into a mobile app. Their platform also supports Apple Pay without requiring an iOS application. The company processes billions annually for several companies including GoFundMe, Meetup, Care.com, FreshBooks, and Constant Contact.
In 2016 WePay received 4 gold and 3 silver awards at the Stevie Awards For Sales & Customer Service and was honored by Inc. Magazine on their 35th Annual List of America's Fastest Growing Companies.
2016 WePay Crosses Atlantic with Integrated Payments for the U.K. They have secured $74 Million in funding from investors Highland Capital Partners, Rakuten, AugustCapital, Continental AdvisorsLLC, and FTV Capital. Their team of 175 employees is based in Redwood City, CA.
