Ashland is a city in Boyd County, Kentucky with a present population of about 21,000. The site of the present city of Ashland saw its first settlers towards the end of the 18th century. These new settlers from the Shenandoah Valley named their new home “Poage’s Landing”. It was not until 1854 when Poage’s Landing was renamed as Ashland after Henry Clay’s Lexington estate of the same name. The city was officially incorporated two years later.
