Clovis is home to a number of agricultural and related industries, the largest of which is the Southwest Cheese Company, the largest producer of cheddar cheese in the northern United States. Drawing in milk fro surrounding farms, it processes over 2 billion pounds of milk per year.
Despite being a center of agriculture, modern farming methods means that agriculture is far less labor intensive than in the old days. Nonetheless, farming is still responsible for around 7% of all the jobs in the city. The Transport and Warehousing sectors, connected both the farming industry and also the BNSF Railway hub in town mean this sector contributes around 9% of the jobs here.
