Draper was first settled in 1849 by a cattle farmer of Scottish ancestry — Ebenezer Brown, who along with his wife decided to start a new life raising cattle in the open meadows of Utah. Ebenezer was known to be generous and began to help new immigrants setup homes in the area. The land soon flourished by 1852 and had over 20 families residing in the area.
William Draper III took over as the presiding elder of Draper and the first post office opened its doors in 1854. During the early days, the townsfolk faced a lot of hostility from the neighboring Native American tribes and a fort was setup during the winters to inhabit the settlers. The current location of the fort is known as the “Draper Historical Park”.
Draper has a total land area of 30.1-square miles with an elevation of 4,505-ft above sea level. Draper enjoys a subtropical climate with dry winters and extreme weathers during the summer. The total population recorded in 2016, according to the census, was 47,328.
