Jobs in Dublin

Dublin is the capital of Ireland. We all know how welcoming and hospitable Irish people are, and such is a city that offers a variety of attractions and many would be sorry to miss them.

As we stroll through the city we can see so many beautiful churches, museums as well as galleries to visit, as well as parks to walk through and see all the beauty Dublin really has to offer.

Dublin has a very rich history. Looking back, we see that theater, literature, and art has played a major role in the development of culture throughout history.

Along the valley of the Liffey River, on the east side of Ireland, there is a beautiful city - Dublin. Dublin is a city that has a mix of traditional and contemporary, is full of historical monuments but also interesting contemporary details that leave no one indifferent. Samuel Beckett, James Joyce, and Thomas Moore who are world-renowned writers were actually born in Dublin.

Due to the temperate climate, snow in Dublin falls only about ten days a year. Dublin residents are known for their kindness and hospitality and there are about half a million of them. Some research shows that a large population of Dublin is under 25 years old.

It's interesting how Dublin got its name. In fact, the name Dublin comes from the Gaelic word "Dubh Linn" which translates as a black pool. There used to be a lake that lied at the mouth of the Podla and Liffey rivers, from which the idea for the name of the city originated, but the original "black pool", as the lake was called, is long gone.

Ireland is one of the strongest EU member states due to its average growth rate. In addition, its economic stability is well founded.

Experience the Celtic Culture

The area where you can have as much fun as you like is absolutely Temple Bar, and that is the place where you can find a lot of bars, pubs and of course clubs, a part of the city that is a prime destination for weekend entertaining, but also week-long fun.

In Temple Bar you can find many bars and restaurants/cafes, plus many more hotels, hostels, and shops.

The most famous pubs are certainly Oliver St John Gogarty, which also has its own hostel and restaurant; The Temple Bar, with its extraordinary red facade and a place that was voted Best Irish Music Pub for several years in a row; Fitzsimons Bar, also with its own accommodation and music club; The Ha'penny Bridge Inn, where you can feel the atmosphere of 'original Dublin'; and The Quays Bar.

We should mention that the oldest pub in Dublin is The Brazen Head, which originates back in 1198, and you should most definitely check it out.

Pros and Cons of Living in Dublin

Pros

  • If your decision to move to Dublin is final, you will see that there are many job opportunities. Whatever you are specialized in, I am sure that Dublin has a place for you. You can try in catering industry (so many bars and restaurants), or maybe IT sector. There are also jobs in security, hotels, supermarkets, warehouses, etc. So, to summarize you will be more that pleased with job offers in Dublin.
  • There are chocolate factories and one for packaging fruit - Keelings.
  • You can also find work in call centers and customer support. There are European offices of global tech companies in Dublin, and that opens up a lot of opportunities when it comes to business, but also raises the cost of housing and general living.
  • It's a high standard, but it's high in taxes, so this can be considered as a pro and as a con. Of course, a big pro is their culture, amazing architecture and their hospitality as Irish are known for their cheerful nature.
  • It is a beautiful city, and there are many things that you should visit. For example Dublin Castle, already mentioned Temple Bar, and more great locations that Dublin offers. One of the things that you have to see is Dublin’s ZOO, which is enchanting.
  • You will never be bored in Dublin.

Cons

  • The weather, the humidity is very high and rainfall is abundant. So if you don’t like the rain, maybe it will be annoying for you.
  • You shouldn’t forget to bring your umbrella and raincoat with you. If you like walking in the rain Dublin will be great for you.
  • The public transportation, to say at least, is not so good; you can get frustrated just thinking about using it.
  • Another thing that might be frustrating is a slow construction that is almost everywhere. It can be really aggravating.
  • And another con can be the already mentioned high standard of living (which is a pro), but also high taxes and that is definitely a con.

Major Attractions of Dublin

  • In my opinion, Trinity College is where you should start from if you are in Dublin for the first time and you want to explore the city. Trinity College is centrally located and it is safe to say that it is actually the heart of the city. It is the oldest Irish university and was founded in 1592 by Queen Elizabeth I. The university is full of unimaginable history and you will simply want to stay there. I must mention that there is a room called the Long Room that dates back to the 18th century, in which we can find more than 200,000 old books.
  • One of the places that will surely delight you (especially if you are a woman ) is Grafton Street, which is Dublin's most famous place for shopping. There's a Molli Malone statue at the end of the street, so you definitely can't miss it. Car campers, songwriters and violinists gather here at all times of the day, so it's always a lot of fun coming here.
  • If you've visited Kildare Street, which is also very interesting, and you decide to continue your walk, you should turn right at the end of Kildare Street. The path will take you to the National Gallery of Ireland which is a must-see if you are in Dublin. An incredible collection of European art, from the Middle Ages to the present, is on display at the National Gallery of Ireland.
