Edinburg is a city in Hidalgo County, Texas with a population of about 87,000. Edinburg is the county seat of Hidalgo County and forms part of the McAllen–Edinburg–Mission and Reynosa–McAllen metropolitan areas.

Founded initially as “Chapin” in 1908, the town was renamed as “Edinburg” three years later as a tribute to John Young – a renowned businessman who was born in Edinburgh, Scotland. Edinburg was incorporated as a city in 1919.
