Elk Grove Economy & Jobs Market
The Local Jobs market is heavily skewed toward white-collar employment, with a lean toward high tech companies. Apple, for example, maintains a “campus” (read regional office) within the city that employs over 1,500 employees in administrative, customer service and repair roles. In a similar vein, several communications companies operate offices within the city such Citizens Telecommunications and Frontier Communications.
In addition, there are the usual service and local government related jobs that you would expect in any reasonably affluent, suburban style city. There is even a degree of manufacturing in the town, with several small scale industrial units and even a large plant for producing baked goods.
So Elk Grove has a relatively diverse jobs market, skewed heavily toward white collar employment but with a reasonable amount of manufacturing and service roles too.
It should also be remembered that Sacramento, with its far larger and diverse jobs market, is very close by.
Living in Elk Grove
Elk Grove is very much a modern city, having experienced nearly all of its growth since the 1980’s. In some cities this rapid, urban sprawl could be problematic, however here it has been very well handled. The city has actually been presented with an award for excellence in its planning and urban development.
Elk Grove then is a perfectly pleasant town to live in. it has no tourism to mention, which to some people will be a good thing! Here it means there is no particular stand out attractions, but rather a decent spread of bars, restaurants and small scales cultural institutions (movie theatres, local perfuming arts scenes, etc).
Elk Grove is a city designed to be lived in, and very well designed at that.
