Jobs in Fishers, Indiana, United States
In 1802, William Conner was the first permanent settler in the region which is now known as the city of Fishers. Before the state of Indiana was formed, the original inhabitants were the Delaware Indians. Post the St. Mary’s treaty, the tribe surrendered their lands to the United States government. The land was purchased by Salathial Fisher in 1872, who went on to name the area — “Fisher’s Switch”. Eventually, the “Switch” was dropped in 1908, and the city received its current name.
The small farmhouse in which Conner lived was ultimately sold to Eli Lilly — better known as the founder of Eli Lilly and Company, in 1934. The farmhouse was restored to its full glory and renamed to “Conner Prairie” and is currently one of the nation’s leading interactive history museums. With artifacts ranging from three different time periods, Connor Prairie is the ideal destination for educational research.
