Janesville was once home to the oldest automotive assembly plant in the country, General Motors’ Janesville Assembly Plant. Similarly, Parker Pen Company was also founded in the city. However, the plant closed in 2008 much to the shock and dismay of local people and businessmen. History and Culture
Janesville is commonly known as the City of Parks. The city has 53 public parks within its 2,000 acres park system further encompassing natural trails, golf courses and boat launches. Rotary Gardens is internationally-themed public Garden famous for its natural beauty and Holiday Light Show. The city has many sites listed on National Registrar of Historic Buildings. Some of these sites include former Janesville Public Library and the Lincoln-Tallman House constructed in 1857.
Another worth visiting place in the city is Armory where culture meets history in an amazing manner. You cannot only dine at their outstanding restaurant but can also enjoy comedy performances and live music.
