Jobs in Livingston, United Kingdom
Despite only having around 56,000 inhabitants, Livingston is the largest town in West Lothian of Scotland and the second largest city in all of the Lothains after Edinburgh. The people of Livingston say it’s a nice quiet place to raise a family, away from the noise and dangers that come with living in big cities.
There’s greenery everywhere you look and what’s particularly great is that Livingston is less than 30 minutes by train from both Glasgow and Edinburgh, making it so that you can enjoy the serenity of Livingston (and the much lower rent!) while continuing to commute to your big city job. However, the public seems to be catching on to this, meaning that while house prices are currently low, they are expected to rise in the near future.
Economy of Livingston
Livingston was built on a site where the oil shale mining industry thrives. The city being properly appointed in the 60s also attracted various companies to set up shop there, eventually leading to it becoming a part of Silicon Glen; Scotland’s Silicon Valley.
Life in Livingston
The city is home to one of the largest retail and leisure outlets in Scotland; The Centre and Livingston Designer Outlet. With a total of 155 shops and restaurants, outdoor eateries, and even a winter garden, you can spend all day roaming the complex and still not see everything. The town center was built so that car parking is never an issue, which is frankly quite delightful. There are also numerous smaller ‘retail parks’ distributed around the area with some big name brands preferring the larger stores they can take up there. In short, you’re never going to run out of retail therapy opportunities in Livingston!
Besides making perhaps unhealthy shopping decisions, you can also spend your time at the pubs, the cinema or the indoor swimming pool.
