Middletown is a city in New York’s Orange County located along Route 21 and providing easy access to Interstate 84 and Route 17. The Shawangunk Mountains and Wallkill River are just few miles away. The city is part of the Hudson Valley located halfway between Newburgh and Port Jervis.

Middletown is a historic city full of arts and cultural, historic sites and houses, museums, walking trails, antique and high end shopping stores and miles and miles of dairy farms. The main attractions in the city include the Historic Paramount Theater, hot air balloon rides with Above the Cloud and highly entertaining Interactive Museum.

The Dairy Industry

Middletown had a very profitable dairy industry before the decline of family farming in 1980s. Dairy farms of different sizes still dominate almost all the surrounding areas of the city. Some of these farms include Royal Acres, Pierson’s Farms and Greenhouse, Corn Family Egg Form and Norbury Acres.

These farms produce and export all types of dairy products to other parts of the country. Unfortunately, the industry is shrinking due to many reasons. However, local government and farmers are determined to preserve and strengthen the industry which has driven local economy for long.

Middletown has been home to many small manufacturing businesses for more than a century. These businesses came to the city after the establishment of many lower railroads in the area.
