Murfreesboro is a city located in Rutherford County in the US State of Tennessee. With a population of approximately 132,000 people the city serves as the county seat.
The city is the population center point of the state, and is located some 34 miles to the southeast of the state capital Nashville.
The city has been ranked by Money magazine as one of the top 100 places to live in the country.
The city has experienced rapid population growth in the past decade. The population as of the year 2000 was around 68,000 meaning the population has almost doubled since the turn of the century – a remarkable growth rate.
The city is particularly well supplied with managed open spaces. Chief amongst them is Old Fork Park, a 50 acre park and sports complex that includes facilities for tennis, baseball, picnics, bike trails and an 18 hole golf course.
In addition, the 430 acre Barfield Crescent Park offers similar outdoor pursuits, and the city is currently in the process of adding 173 miles of greenways and bike trails.
The city hosts a number of annual music festivals such as the Main Street Jazz Fest every May. The city boasts an art center and annual folk festival, and the city is also home to a number of excellent museums including historic houses and a natural history museum.
Shopping is split between two large mall complexes boasting all the expected brands, store and restaurants. For a more unique experience try the downtown historic district which also boasts a diverse range of shops and bars.

The jobs market is buoyant and growing – experiencing 4.5% growth in 2016, an increase on the 3.2% recorded the year before.
A large-scale Nissan plant is the single largest employer, with a workforce of around 7,500 people. Manufacturing is in fact the third largest employing sector here, with around 12.5% of jobs in town connected to it.
Healthcare is the second biggest sector (12.7%), and there are a number of medical facilities in town with large workforces – National Healthcare (2,000) being the biggest. The presence of Middle Tennessee State University (2,200 employees) explains the high percentage of jobs (11%) found in the education sector.
Retail, at 14% is the largest sector, with the two malls, downtown shopping district plus clusters of commerce throughout the city providing many jobs here.
Administration (5%) and Finance and Insurance (5%) are strong, with several companies, including a large insurance providers) having regional or national headquarters here.
