New Brunswick gets its name from the “House of Brunswick” that occupied the throne of England in 1730, the settlers were mostly of English origin. Post the American Revolutionary War, New Brunswick was known as “Hub City” as it was in the center of Middlesex County. The railroad service made its way to the city in 1839, with the completion of the Camden & Amboy Railroad, linking the city to the New Jersey Railroad. During the 1860s, rubber became the prime occupation of New Brunswick due to the ongoing Civil War.
