Newport Beach is an ocean front city of pristine, blue Pacific Ocean waters and miles of sandy, golden beach. It has a broadly wealthy population and a very high standard of living, which is reflected in the well above national average median income and house prices in the table below.
Water sports, particularly surfing and boating, are very popular here in the city. Upper Newport Bay is very popular with walkers and mountain bikers, being ringed by multiple trails designed for both. Cycling is also a popular way to get around inside the city itself.
There is one, small theatre and two well attended farmers markets. Dining out is a popular recreation in town with dozens of excellent restaurants, many of which cater toward seafood – somewhat understandable given the location.

However, it comes at a price, being recognized as one of the most expensive Zip codes in the US, with house prices in the city ranked as the 9th most expensive nationwide as of 2014.

Working in Newport Beach
With this amount of affluence you may assume the job market here is service and retail industry heavy, however Newport Beach has a thriving industrial center. A number of companies have either HQs in the town or large regional offices, including one Fortune 500 Company, the insurer Pacific Life.
Large offices also exist for Acacia Research (Patent Licensing), the Galardi Group (Restaurant operators) and Pimco (Investment Management), whilst Toyota maintain a design facility in the city. All employ somewhere between 1,000 to 300 employees.
As of 2016, 42,000 people were actively employed in the workforce here. The largest single sector was the Professional, Scientific and Tech Services sector, accounting for around 16.5% of the total jobs.
As a city with a large tourist base and population with large disposable income, service industries are important, with about 15% of jobs being in retail sales or food service.
