Ogden was founded in 1845 and is widely considered to be the oldest settlement in all of Utah. It is located at the confluence of the Weber and Ogden rivers. The land was sold to the Mormon community by Miles Goodyear — a mountain worker residing in the nearby Fort Buenaventura.
The name “Ogden” comes from Peter Skene Ogden — who was a trapper from the Hudson’s Bay Company. Much of the early occupation of Ogden revolved around agriculture due to the vicinity of the nearby rivers. The community began to expand after the release of the “Pineview Dam” project along with the establishment of the city’s water system.
