Jobs in Ontario, California, United States
Ontario is a city with a population of around 163,000, which is found in San Bernardino County in California. Whilst not actually in Los Angeles County itself (it lies just to the east) it is part of the Greater Los Angeles Area.
Ontario Economy & Jobs Market
The economy of Ontario is dominated by Ontario International Airport. Passenger numbers through this airport are rising year on year and currently stand at over 4.2 million. The airport name has recently changed to LA Ontario Airport. This very much highlights its function, as a secondary airport to the main LA airport at LAX.
The airport is also a major regional hub for cargo operations, in particular UPS for whom this airport serves as their Western Region Hub.
The airport then is by far the largest local employer, quickly followed by various airport service companies that have constructed infrastructure in the city. There are various distribution and freight forwarding/handling companies in the city, operating out of vast warehouse facilities on the city outskirts.
The city is certainly an attractive area to consider for job seekers with logistic experience.
Living in Ontario
Ontario does not have much of a tourist trade. Therefore, it is somewhat lacking in stand out attractions. On the other hand, this makes it more of a community based city than many others of similar size in California – particularly those with heavy tourist trades.
Indeed, the city boasts recreational facilities more in keeping with a settled residential population, rather than tailored for the fleeting attentions of tourism. Therefore, there is a strong performing arts scene with several theatres, a decent spread of restaurants and bars and several well maintained parks.
The city is also home to a sports arena with very well supported Ice Hockey and Basketball teams in residence.
Broadly speaking, Ontario is a pleasant city, with a lower than average crime rate compared to California as a whole.
