Paducah is a city in McCracken County, Kentucky with a current population of over 25,000. Modern settlements in Paducah began around 1815 when European settlers discovered the beautiful expanse of land at the confluence of the Ohio and Tennessee Rivers.
The new settlers initially called the place Pekin, until William Clark arrived in 1827. For the next few years, Clark began work on a new, modern town in the area occupied by erstwhile Pekin and renamed it as Paducah in honour of the Chickasaw chief “Paduke”. The town of Paducah finally became official in 1830 and was incorporated as a city eight years later.
