Petaluma is a riverfront city of 60,000 people in Sonoma County, California. The Coast Miwok Indians named the place “Petaluma” which in their language meant “the back side of the hills”. Settlers from the eastern United States founded modern Petaluma 1852 and incorporated it as a city six year later. During its formative years, Petaluma excelled in egg production. Consequently, the city was nicknamed “Egg Capital of the World” and “Chickaluma”.
