The name “Pocatello” takes its origin from the chief of the Indigenous tribe, Shoshone, who provided entry to the railroad via the Fort Hall Indian Reservation. It was founded in the year 1889 and was notably called “The Gateway of the Northwest”. It is the largest city in all of Bannock County.
