Redding is a city in the northern part of California. It is the county seat of Shasta County and has a current population of about 92,000. The city was named after Benjamin Redding, a politician who set up the erstwhile town as part of a railway terminus in the later part of the 19th century. Redding was incorporated as a city in 1887.
Redding boasts an education attainment percentage of almost 90%, which is among the best in the state. Three universities serve the city – the Simpson University, the National University and the California State University, Chico Campus.
