Salisbury’s origin takes place in 1753, when Earl Granville transferred over 600 acres of land to establish the “Salisbury Township”. The township was built close to the Native American trading route and hence began to quickly develop into a flourishing economic center in all of North Carolina.
In 1766, during the American War of Independence, several colonial judicial districts were established in the city of Salisbury. It was directed by William Tryon — The colonial governor of North Carolina. The first associate justice for the District of Salisbury was — Edmund Fanning.
