South Jordan had its first permanent settlers in 1859, a Canadian blacksmith named Alexander Beckstead and his wife Catherine Beckstead. The ditch was later used as a mill race for the White Fawn Flour Mill built by Robert M. Holt.
South Jordan integrated as a town in 1935 and its prime occupation was agriculture with over 1,300 settlers living in the area.
