The largest city in Spartanburg County Spartanburg is the twelfth largest city in South Carolina. Despite its relatively small size, it has a population of just over 37,000; Spartanburg is a lively and bustling hub with many opportunities.
Very much a college town, institutions such as Wofford College and the University of South Carolina (Upstate) are based here, Spartanburg enjoys a lively social scene. The city is also home to the headquarters of Dennys and the BMW Spartanburg factory.
A Thriving Economy
The last decade has seen a revitalization of Spartanburg’s downtown commercial district. As well as remodeling Morgan Square and restoring a number of historic structures this initiative has attracted several businesses and company headquarters to the area. These include not only the headquarters of QS/1 Data Systems and the headquarters of Denny’s restaurants but also smaller businesses such as RJ Rockers Brewing Company.
Like the neighboring Greenville, Spartanburg benefits greatly from the presence of a BMW manufacturing facility. This offers well paid employment as well as apprenticeships and training schemes. As well as working directly for BMW there are also many opportunities to be found with smaller companies who have chosen to base themselves in the area to supply or support the larger company. Many of these jobs are also skilled and well paid.

As well as teaching there are also many administrative and support roles seeking dedicated and efficient workers. The city is also the site of the world headquarters manufacturers Miliken and Company. Their facility here also has a large research facility. The company employs many highly skilled people in their facilities and like BMW their presence has attracted many smaller operations to the city.
A Lively Environment
Spartanburg has long been home to a thriving creative community. Many institutions, such as the Chapman Cultural Center and Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium continue to thrive as a result. Similarly Converse College is a known throughout America for its music and visual art programs. The institution holds many public events throughout the year.
Spartanburg also hosts many annual celebrations such as Retrofest, the Southeast’s largest disco festival. Red, White and Boom is a popular Fourth of July celebration which takes place at the city’s Barnet Park, it features live music as well as amazing fireworks display.
Spartanburg is a lively college town, which has transformed itself into an industrial hub. Consequently there are many well paid and skilled career opportunities to be found here.
