St Charles is a city of around 34,000 inhabitants that is found in the US state of Illinois. Located around 40 miles to the west of Chicago, it is considered a suburb of that city.
Its location on the Fox River, which runs through the center of the town, gives rise to the city’s nickname, Pride of the Fox.

St Charles is a quant, family orientated town with an excellent local school system. Downtown St Charles in particular teems with an excellent variety of shops, restaurants and bars. Downtown St Charles was in fact named one of the regions Top 10 by the Chicago Tribune. The award highlighted the diversity of restaurants and excellent nightlife.
The city is also home to the Arcade theatre, a 90-year-old theatre that is a major attraction in the local area, and has played host to a range of famous performers over the years. In addition, the city hosts a number of annual festivals such as the Kane County Fair, a summer Dragonboat Festival and a Scarecrow festival in October.
The St Charles Public Library consistently ranks as one of the best in the country, and there are numerous well-maintained parks and outdoor recreation facilities, including excellent hiking/running trails along the banks of the Fox River.

That prosperous and successful downtown that we mentioned above both draws visitors to the city and also provides a lot of jobs, with around 16% of the jobs in the city being found in the retail, accommodation and food sectors.
After that, education (10%) and healthcare (10%) are big employers, with St Charles Community School district being the largest single employer in the city (1,800 workforce).
There is also a strong manufacturing and professional/tech services sector in the town. System Sensor, for example, manufacture fire protection equipment and maintain both a headquarters and manufacturing facility in town, with a workforce some 550 strong.
There are quite a few similar high tech manufactures located in the city, meaning that manufacturing is strong here, representing 14% of the total jobs. Professional, Scientific and Tech services as well as general Administration are a further 15% of the jobs market, showing that there is a considerable white collar, office based jobs market in this city.
