Sunrise, situated in Broward County, forms part of the Miami metropolitan area. In 1960, a remote development, then known as Sunrise Golf Village, was built to cater to retirees. At the Sawgrass Mills, The Colonnade Outlets features 70 elite outlets, such as Jimmy Choo, Prada, Burberry, and Versace. Additionally, The Oasis at Sawgrass Mills offers extensive family-entertainment with a 23-screen movie theater, fine dinning restaurants, multiple food courts, as well as other entertainment options, such as the GameRoom.
The BB&T Center, home to the Florida Panthers of the National Hockey League, hosts more than 100 annual entertainment events. The Center, a 20-000 seat multipurpose venue, offers a luxurious experience for spectators of a hockey match or other regular performances and events. One regular event is performances by the Sunrise Symphonic Pops Orchestra, a 65-member symphony which regularly performs through the winter season.

Additionally, Lauderdale-by-the-sea, only 11 miles from Sunrise, offers a low-key beach experience and is home to a unique natural coral reef system, perfect for a day of snorkeling.
