Taylorsville is a relatively new city and was incorporated in 1996 through a vote bank conducted by various communities in the area. The communities belonged to Salt Lake County and were mainly from — Bennion, Kearns, and Taylorsville. The city is bordered by the Wasatch and Oquirrh Mountains in the east and west portions.
Taylorsville origins began in 1848 when Mormon settlers Joseph and Susanna Harker made their way to the area and built a log cabin beside the Jordan River. The community slowly grew and by 1860 there were over 170 residents along with the first post office established. In 1881, the Utah and Salt Lake Canal was established with which the townsfolk took up agriculture as their main source of livelihood.
