Wheeling is a town located in Cook County in the state of Illinois. The town is a suburb of Chicago, located around 30 miles to the north the centre of the city. Driving time from Wheeling to Chicago is about an hour.
Wheeling has a population of around 38,000 inhabitants.
The village has long been a popular destination for former Chicago residents looking for a more suburban environment. Growth has been steady in the town after a late 1980’s surge, and the town is today taking steps to encourage further migration.
One of the biggest projects currently underway is the rebuilding of significant sections of the Town Center. Current plans have seen $110 million sunk into a development that will result in 300 apartments and over 100,000 square feet of new retail space.
The development will also include a movie theatre, meaning that local residents will have even more recreational facilities.
The town’s close location to North Shore provides a range of outdoor activities such as hiking and trail walking in Cook County Forest Preserve, and the city maintains a number of smaller parks and other outdoor spaces.
There is also an aquatic center and several golf/country clubs.
For the culture vulture, the town is home to its own museum and an excellent Korean Cultural Center.

Wheeling supplies around 14 million square feet of manufacturing space, and has the fifth highest concentration of manufacturing employment in the state.
