Woonsocket is located in Providence County, Rhode Island. A relatively small city, Woonsocket has a population of only 41,186, it is a vibrant and engaging community with plenty of employment opportunities.
Originally inhabited by the Native American tribes, the Nimpucs, Wampanoags and Narragansetts, in 1661 European settlers arrived in the area. This led to the Anglicisation of Providence County. After the Blackstone River was sourced as a provider of waterpower the region became a prime location for textile mills.
Despite the arrival of settlers in the 17th century, Woonsocket was not established as a town until 1867. Prior to this the area had been a collection of textile mill towns. As more villages were added to the ever growing town’s boundaries Woonsocket became a city in 1888.

Following World War Two Woonsocket’s economy diversified away from manufacturing. Retail, technology and the financial services all began to bloom in the area.
