Beekeeper was founded in 2012 by Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH) graduates Flavio Pfaffhauser and Cristian Grossmann. Beekeeper stemmed from the mobile social network for students in Switzerland called Spocal. The developers aimed to create a mobile networking application to help employers better communicate with workers in the service industry.
Beekeeper allows employees who have limited or no access to desktop computers and corporate email addresses the ability to stay in touch with the rest of their organization. Employers can set up access through proving logins and passwords or created a Quick Response (QR) code that employees can scan. Beekeeper was listed as one of the Top 100 SaaS Companies in Europe and Israel in 2016 by Accel. Their headquarters is based in Zurich, Switzerland and they have an office in San Francisco, CA. The company received $5 Million in funding from investors Fyrfly Venture Partners, b-to-v Partners, Polytech Ecosystem Ventures, along with Ariel Luedi, and Niklas Ostberg in 2016. More than 60 clients in the hospitality, retail, and manufacturing fields with users in more than 100 countries use the platform.
